Multiplication when introduced as a concept should be done in a visual way. We do it by distributing things in a particular group ( for examples 2 blocks at a time) and then repeating the same process again and again. At each step we ask the question how many things you had? How many do you have now? Seeing the concept in 3D helps children understand that multiplication is the addition of the same number over and over again.
